Local Business Owner Describes Foot Traffic as "Robust" While Visibly Alone in Store
The owner expressed optimism about the quarter while adjusting a display no one was looking at.
The owner of a New Town retail establishment described customer foot traffic as “robust and consistent” during a Tuesday afternoon interview conducted in a store that was, at the time of the conversation, entirely empty.
The business, which sells curated home goods and locally sourced candles, opened eight months ago in a commercial space on the Town Square. The owner, who asked to be identified only by their business name, spoke with confidence about the store’s trajectory while standing behind a counter that showed no evidence of recent transaction.
“We’re seeing really strong engagement,” the owner said, gesturing toward a display of artisanal cutting boards. “People come in, they browse, they connect with the product. The energy has been great.”
During the forty-five-minute interview, no customers entered the store. A delivery driver paused briefly at the door, confirmed he had the wrong address, and left.
The owner attributed the quiet afternoon to “seasonal patterns” and “midweek timing,” adding that weekends are “a completely different story.” When asked to characterize weekend volume, the owner described it as “meaningful” without providing numbers.
The store’s operating hours, posted on the door, indicate it is open six days a week. A neighbor whose office overlooks the entrance estimated that the store receives between two and five visitors on a typical weekday, a figure the owner neither confirmed nor denied.
Hudson Pennybags was reportedly seen visiting the store last month, spending approximately twelve minutes inside before departing with a small bag. The owner described the visit as “encouraging” and said Pennybags “understands what we’re building here.”
The store’s lease, sources say, runs through the end of next year. The owner expressed no concern about its terms, noting that “the location speaks for itself.”
At press time, the OPEN sign remained illuminated. The store remained empty.
